Promposals & How to Ask Someone to Prom

asking your prom date to prom

Unique Promposal Ideas

The whole point of a promposal is that it's memorable. Nothing is more memorable than something that is personalized. Think about the person you want to ask and what you know about their personality. Do they play a particular sport, or are they addicted to a certain game? Use this as a way to create a funny promposal that's unique to the individual. If you know their favorite song, why not make a funny video of you lip-syncing to the words, ending the video with the proposal itself. Think outside of the box and make sure you show the person the reason why you've picked them!

How do you ask someone to prom?

If a promposal is too over-the-top for you, there are plenty of other ways to ask someone to go with you. Make sure you ask the person you have in mind with plenty of time to spare before prom night. They'll need several weeks at a minimum to get their outfit ready and plan everything for themselves.

A good way to test the waters is to drop 'oh do you know who you're going with to prom yet?" into the conversation. If they don't yet have a date, just ask them there and then to go with you. If you're already good friends, simply asking straight out in person is the best way to go!

If you're shy or don't know the person that well, you can always send a message through social media instead. Try to make your request sound casual and relaxed, so the person you're asking won't feel too pressured, and will be open and honest with you when writing their response.

How long before prom should I ask someone?

You'll want to let someone know well in advance if you want them to be your prom date. Around 2 months before your prom night gives your date enough time to prepare but still keeps it fresh in their memory as it approaches. Besides buying an outfit, you'll want to arrange a matching corsage and boutonniere, probably at a local florist. You may want to coordinate outfits so you look great together in photos. You should also confirm other plans such as booking dinner or transport and any after-prom activities with your date. Make sure to check in with them as prom night draws close, to ask if they need any help getting ready.

How do you ask your best friend to prom?

If you don't want to take a typical date, asking your best friend to go with you is a great idea. However, you'll want to make sure that you're both on the same page and she doesn't want to take a date too. Simply bring up the topic of prom dates and see if she has plans first. If not, you can suggest going together or with the rest of your friend group. Making it a 'ladies night' can be far more relaxing and enjoyable, with less pressure to entertain dates or be stuck with someone you don't know very well. It's a great way to celebrate the end of your high school years with the people who have always been closest to you through the whole journey.
